A Mediterranean mountain national park

The Sierra de las Nieves National Park was declared by law in 2021 and covers about 23,000 hectares of limestone and peridotite ranges between Ronda and the Costa del Sol. It has also been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1995. The slopes change from damp fir forests to gall oak, holm oak and pine woods, with ibex, golden eagles and a rich flora.

Underground lies the GESM pothole, one of the deepest in the world, explored by cavers to more than a thousand metres below the surface.

Rural tourism and flavours

The area has rural cottages, small boutique hotels and hearty mountain cooking: kid goat, chickpea stews, sopas perotas, honey, olive oil and goat's cheese. A perfect place to unwind less than an hour from the coast.
